Q1 : How did you get your alias/rap name?
It was the eventual evolution of a long line of names that weren't right.
Q2 : What year did you first get into hip hop?
Probably around 88-89.
Q3 : Who have been the major influences on your career to date and how? (musical or other)
Masta Ace, Public Enemy, Kool Keith, Nas, Buck 65, DJ Premier. Each one brought something dope and original to the table and continue to make great music.
Q4 : If you could perform or record with anyone dead or alive - who would it be and why?
Barry Manilow. That guy cranks out the hits!
Q5 : What countries and cities have you most enjoyed performing in? Any interesting stories to tell?
As of this interview I've only toured in Canada, but going to the US later this year. One time I did a show and when I got into town all the posters up said "The Word Bugler," as in the instrument. I thought that was pretty hilarious. Also, one time I got kidnapped by a girl…
Q6 : Across your career to date, what highlights will you hold onto till you die?
Finishing and releasing Burglaritis. The “Cream of Wheat” video is also a big highlight for me.
Q7 : Vinyl and analog have played such a massive part of the development of hip hop, how do you feel about the shift to digital?
Hip-hop's always been on the cutting edge of music production, from sampling to scratching to rapping. I think the digital shift is only going to help push things further, although Serato and downloading mean a lot less kids are going to know the true joys of digging for records.
Q8 : What advice do you have for young, aspiring artists (MCs/DJs/Producers)?
Don't put shit out until you're good. Don't copy wack shit. Don't mix chocolate milk with donair pizza.
Q9 : What one thing in your career you would most want to be remembered for?
Enjoying rapping.
Q10 : What other activities do you enjoy doing when you're not making music, rehearsing or performing?
Reading comic books and playing sports. And kissing hot ladies.
Q11 : Why hip hop?
'Cause it's the greatest artistic human creation of the last million years. And I like rhymin'.
