Q1 : How did you get your alias/rap name?
My name means the Deliverer of many styles....I am the Messiah of style. I picked it up back in the days...like 92....people started calling me Messiah....and I just added the style..and it sticked.
Q2 : What year did you first get into hip hop?
No bullshit.....1988...I was 10 yrs. old.....when my cousin bought be Run DMC's "Rasing Hell" on tape...I was bumpin that shit daily as a kid.
Q3 : Who have been the major influences on your career to date and how? (musical or other)
My father first and foremost....he's a musician/guitarist who influenced me musically. He always had me around instruments, vinyl, the whole 9. My mom tells me she used to sit in his rehearsals with his band when I was in her womb...and the music would go on...I would kick. No B.S. Later in life is when I got inspired by other artists and producers in the industry. Top 5: Dr. Dre, Teddy Riley, J-Dilla, Biggie, Jay-Z.
Q4 : If you could perform or record with anyone dead or alive - who would it be and why?
Biggie aka Notorious B.I.G.....to me he's the greatest of all time....just on delivery, cadence, charisma, rhyme style, his ability to storytell so vividly....just a pure monster. Slick Rick, Jay-Z....Nas....those guys are just groundbreaking artists....I know I got some classic material they could get down on.
Q5 : What countries and cities have you most enjoyed performing in? Any interesting stories to tell?
As an artist back in the day I rocked the stage at the legendary Maritime Hall in San Francisco with my old crew Daysmen Empire...at the Broke Summer Jam put together by the Living Legends...this was in 2002 or 2003....it was like 3-4 thousand people...just feeling out shit....the feeling was great.
Q6 : Across your career to date, what highlights will you hold onto till you die?
I'm one of the most versatile Producers/Emcees to ever take place in this music industry.....I'm the last of a dying breed of the Producer/MC. I'm as real as it gets. Also.....That I produced "Queens Pimp" by 50 Cent..one of his biggest mixtape songs ever....and I was not credited it for it......it still gets radio play by Dj Whoo Kid and Funkmaster Flex on their mix shows today.
Q7 : Vinyl and analog have played such a massive part of the development of hip hop, how do you feel about the shift to digital?
The shift is good and needed to happen...it makes everything so convienient now...you can have a whole digital studio mobile with you on the road....anywhere. Digital is king.
Q8 : What advice do you have for young, aspiring artists (MCs/DJs/Producers)?
Make sure that you have hundreds of other people outside of your friends, family, who tell you that you got dope talent and that you have what it takes.....then you will know that it's unbiased true feedback. This game is not for everyone...it has to be natural. If you got talent that is not "forced" and you can stand out amongst the rest and pave your own lane...then by all means...give it all you got for better or for worse...it will consume your life...many sacrifices will be ahead of you. Only the strong survive. Be in it for the long haul.
Q9 : What one thing in your career you would most want to be remembered for?
will say it again...... I'm one of the most versatile Producers/Emcees to ever take place in this music industry.....I'm the last of a dying breed of the Producer/MC. I'm as real as it gets.
Q10 : What other activities do you enjoy doing when you're not making music, rehearsing or performing?
I'm a walking music box so I'm always listening, playing, making or living music....Music is my life.....I do read books from time to time. I like to travel, get tattoos....I love gettin inked.
Q11 : Why hip hop?
Hip Hop is one of the greatest cultures to ever come on this earth. I knew I wanted to live it when I first heard and saw it as a kid. It is barely over 30+ years old and will be here forever. As long as I live...I will breathe it, inhale/exhale it....24/7.
